5 of the best beaches in Victoria

Don't you just love the sound of the waves crashing onto the sand, relishing the warm feeling of sand between your toes, experiencing the enchanting feeling of watching the sunrise and sunset over the horizon? There is nothing better than the feeling of calmness, the feeling of peace, the feeling of simplicity that the beach gives you. During COVID, I realised how much we take nature for granted. I really miss the smell of the saltwater in the air, the crisp breeze and cold water during the early mornings and late-nights, being able to forget about everything and revel in the tranquillity of my safe haven. For all those beach lovers out there, this one is for you; the 5 most exquisite beaches in Victoria I have ever visited which can be categorised into 'popular for a reason' and 'hidden gems'.

Popular for a reason:

5. Torquay Beach

Torquay Beach is a favourite for most. The livelihood on hot summer days and easy access to food(my go-to is subways of course) make it 10x better, but remember to be there early if you want a good spot! It is a patrolled beach, making it easier and less stressful to having fun whilst staying safe. If you are not keen on sitting in the sand with food, Torquay Beachalso has a beautiful grass area and playgrounds which are perfect for picnics and lazying about. Furthermore, the beach provides many different facilities to the public such as BBQs and changing areas to make your day more enjoyable and the ride back home more comfortable. The beach has certain dog-friendly time shared sections as well!

4. Squeaky Beach

This stunning beach is located in Wilsons Promontory. Although it is quite a drive, it is definitely worth it. The gorgeous white sand squeaks under your feet whilst the cool clear water invites you to get wet and have some fun. I would recommend bringing a tent and/or picnic necessities when visiting because this beach temps you to stay for the whole day. If you decide you would like to go for a walk, there are also many stunning trails which lead to creeks and coastal viewpoints around Squeaky Beach. Toilet facilities are also provided next to the car park area. The only downside to this beach is that it is not patrolled.

3. Smiths Beach

Smiths Beach, one of my most favourite beaches to visit. This beach is absolutely perfect for a lazy day or a day full of fun and laughter. Sometimes I love to just sit in the shallow end of the water and gaze at the waves as they crest, sometimes I love to go for a swim and have some in the water and other times I like to just relax in the tent with the music playing in the background. If you are not a person who likes to spend their whole day on the beach, Smiths Beach also has a beautiful walk that you can do and is also close to local restaurants. This beach is popular for "surfing, swimming, body boarding, stand up paddle boarding, rock pooling, snorkelling, beach walks, fishing and beach games". Lifeguards are also on duty during the summer at certain times. For more information on this, visit 'Visit Bass Coast'.

Hidden Gems:

2. Split Point Beach

When I visit beaches like Split Point Beach, I wonder why people don't stop and take a look. They may not be popular as some others but they are absolutely beautiful in their own way. Split Point Beach, for example, has some outstanding rock foundations which provide a perfect picture opportunity. It also has a small 'lake' just before the ocean which is perfect for people who want to dip their feet in warm water and then get into the ocean. This tranquil place is only a few minutes away from restaurants and other activities in the town visiting the lighthouse. Split Point Beach has incredible coastal views and is a great beach to just stroll about on. There are also facilities such as toilets, playgrounds and BBQ areas provided as well.

1. Sandy Point Beach

UHHHH THIS BEACH IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE! The feeling of the fine sand run through your toes and across your feet as you walk on the sand relaxes you like no other. The feeling of the crisp breeze on your face as you stroll in the shallow of the clear ocean clams you like no other. The amazing thing about this beach is that it is a walking distance from most residences/rentals in Sandy Point. This beach is usually missed by many as they all travel to Squeaky Beach instead, however, you MUST go to this beach. It is phenomenal, especially at sunset and sunrise. However, there are a few hazards at this beach like strong rip currents at certain times. Due to this reason, the beach is also patrolled(mostly on the weekends). Now, I want you to close your eyes and tune out everything. Imagine you are at your safe place, the place where you feel as though you can forget about all your worries and just cherish the life you have. A place where you feel as though you can be yourself without any care in the world. What does that place look like? As some of you can guess, for me, it is the beach. It is really important to have a place like this as it refreshes your mind and allows you to feel more collected and calm.
