"Fairytales tell children that dragons can be slain"

“Fairytales do not tell children that dragons exist. Children already know dragons exist. Fairy Tales tell children that the dragons can be slayed.” -GK Chesterton-

This quote was up on the instagram page recently, but I feel it is so important, especially in these troubling times. To bring this awful reminder to some of us having a huge Egyptian river in our minds, but we are unfortunately in lockdown. APOLOGIES dear readers, forgive me for bringing such troubling reminders upon you. However, I promise this blog post will end on a positive note.

I don’t know how much of this will mean because I am nothing but an avatar upon many blank screens, but I am saying these words, for those that need to hear it: This will end. Lockdown is not forever. Lockdown is simply a dragon that is waiting to be conquered and slayed. I know these words seem overused or dare I say, even cliche and have lost their meaning, but I say it in hopes that it will encourage all of you to hold on. For some of you, things are unbearably hard and for the rest of you, things are harder. It can be getting to the point where the tunnel is a maze, there is no light, no torches, nothing but pure wander and aimless walking ahead. I am here to tell you, it’s not. How do I know this? Because I've been you. When there was no wood, no fire, no match, I created my own torch and made my way out of this maze. Oh but Ari, How do I do that in Lockdown? Let’s start by admitting to yourself you need help, and you can’t do this alone. If you are behind in schoolwork, then ask the teachers for assistance. Im sure your teachers would be more than happy to help you. And if you have a teacher that really, and I mean really should not be teaching, then talk to a trusted teacher. Tell them your situation and talk about your options. If you are still struggling in your schoolwork and the teacher is not helping you, create a study group. If you are struggling then there must be more students struggling as well. Or if your friend is really good in that subject then ask them to help you. Find yourself watching TV or Netflix the entire day? Ask yourself, is there always something you wanted to try but never had the time? Do you want to get better at drawing? Did you want to get at music? Try getting a new hobby and if you don’t want to do it alone, then ask a friend. And if they don’t want to do it. Ask another! There are so many starting points to creating your own torch. You just have to want to try.

As I was saying before, “Fairy tales tell children that dragons can be slayed”, sometimes we forget that we are all just children, each with our dragons. That are waiting to be conquered and slayed. Until later, my dear readers!
