Marvel

I am an absolute HUGE Marvel fan. I just finished watching The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and I would recommend it if you have Disney Plus.

My favourite thing about it is how convoluted and complex it is. I love how everything is not black and white, because reality isn’t black and white. Everything is subjective. I feel like that’s something everyone forgets. I also love how Marvel manages to intertwine big issues such as racism and refugees into the storyline. As a member of the African-American community, I feel represented. And I know that what Marvel did was a fraction of a millimetre. There are thousands of people and they are suffering. And I could scream to the point where my lungs give out and no one can hear me.

When I say this, I don't speak for everyone in my community, because as I said before, everything is subjective, but for me personally, it was a representation. It was people who looked like me on television playing more than minor roles, with characters that had meaning and were doing something bigger than themselves. I dream that I will be one of those people too. To be an inspiration to others, not because of social status, but because of my character and my actions. I want to make a difference. Another reason why I love Marvel. They take fictional characters, make them real to the audience, and make them huge inspirations for thousands all over the world. I'm inspired by Captain America (Steve Rogers)’s selflessness, Thor’s determination, Tony Stark’s intelligence, and Black Widow’s quick thinking. They make me want to become better. I think those are huge messages to take home. Because overall, the world can be a better place. -Ariana
